I’m Zack, the founder of this spirited endeavor.
It’s great to have you here.
What is this?
Driver’s Seat Dispatches is the creative medium through which I strive to share my creativity via the written word. It’s also an exercise in vulnerability, and as such, it is often a beautifully organized mess.
I’ve been passionate about writing from the moment I first saw the potential that can unfold when simple words are strung together to evoke wide ranging emotions and convey powerful messages. Communication is one of our oldest and most precious gifts. It brings me great joy to keep the line open here.
Who are you?
I’m a human, a writer, an adventurer, a student, and fun haver. A perpetual collector of labels.
Growing up, I had an insatiable curiosity. Writing was one of the many ways I found I could dive a little deeper and assign my own meaning and perspective to things. Employment has taken me from amusement parks to national parks, from first shift to third. I’ve advocated on behalf of those with developmental disabilities who bestowed upon me time and again the incredible gift of presence. I’ve worked with teenagers and young adults in wilderness therapy and watched them wrestle with raw emotions all while teaching valuable lessons in courage and resilience.
I’ve lived in big cities and small towns, under roofs and beneath blankets of stars. Also a van. Sometimes I parked down by the river. Perhaps that’s all to say I’m more or less like you, wading through my own river of being.
As it turns out, I’m just about the best person I can think of to tell my story.
Why should I stick around?
Here you’ll find a wide range of pieces that I hope will showcase my talents, experiences and personal mission to bring my enthusiasm for writing to life through thoughtful and engaging prose.
You’ll read stories that will only appear here and I’ll link to other publications I write for as well, creating a portfolio I can utilize to express and to elevate.
I hope you’ll enjoy the time you spend here.
